Teachers from  the country ‘s ten provinces converge in Harare’s  Belvedere Technical College on the 17th of October 2012 for  the Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (ZIMTA)  National Games  one day event.

Created 16- August- 2012

Teachers of various age groups are set to participate in soccer, volleyball, athletics, netball, basketball and indoor games such as chess and darts.

The annual event which draws its participants from across the divide in Zimbabwe is meant to be a social platform where members from the education sector converge for social interactions while indulging in body fitness activities such as sports.

Close to 700 members from the education sector have confirmed their participation in this national event which is meant to strengthen ties and interaction of members in the same field.

This year’s sporting event has coincided with the national census hence this has affected the usual participation of the teachers as  traditionally educationists turn up in thousands for this event but ZIMTA is happy to be hosting its members for this important event.

Members who will excel in the tournament will make it into the national teams which are set to proceed to Namibia at the end of this month, where the teams shall engage other teams from the Southern African Teachers’ Organization (SATO) at the end of August where ZIMTA is an affiliate union.
Trophies and medals shall be presented to the best provinces and individual winners in various sporting disciplines.

The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA), is the largest teacher trade   union in Zimbabwe having more than 44 000 members in the education sector.
