ZIMTA joins the rest of the world in celebrating World Teachers’ Day on Friday October 5 and all teachers are expected to attend  the celebrations scheduled to take place at all provincial centres. 

The theme for this year is “Take a Stand For Teachers". According to the Educators International (EI), a world body representing the welfare of all educators, “the day should be a time for to reflect on the difficult economic and social context in which teachers work and finding ways of improving their professional status and working conditions and those of all in the education personnel”.

In accordance with ZIMTA’s policy of rotating venues for national and international events, this year’s world teachers’ day will be hosted by Midlands Province where the ZIMTA President Mrs Tendai Chikowore will officiate.

Commemorations will also be held in all Zimbabwe’s ten provinces and all ZIMTA members are expected to attend.

In Harare province celebrations will be held at Harare gardens (Christmas gardens) and the event will commence at 9.00am.All educators are expected to attend.

In Mashonaland East educators will be gathered at Marondera country club at 10.00am. A procession will be held from ZIMTA offices to Marondera Country Club. Marimba, music and poetry cited by teachers will mark celebrations at this event.

Educators in Bulawayo Province will be gathered at Coghlan primary school and a procession is going to be held from ZIMTA offices to the venue. The celebrations will start at 9.00am and will continue until 2.00pm.

Educators in Midlands Province will be gathered at Kwekwe High Schoo and the event will commence at 9.00aml. A procession will be held from Queens’ park to the venue.

 

In Mashonaland Central Province the World Teachers Day celebrations will be held at Bindura Municipal hall from 10.00am to 1.00pm.

Celebrations in Matebeland North Province World Teachers Day commemoration ceremony will be held at Nembe Secondary School in Tsholotsho district from 10.am to 4.00pm.Activities like poetry drama and singing will grace the event among other major activities.

Educators in Matebeleland South will gather in Mangwe District (Plumtree) at 9.30am and a procession is going to be held to celebration venue.

In Mashonaland East Province educators will be gathered in Sanyati and the event will commence at 9.00am.

Celebrations in Masvingo Province will be held in Bikita from 9.00am.

For Manicaland Province the venue and time will be advised in due course.
