Zimbabwe Teacher’s Association has selected a management board to assist in the implementation of decisions made by the membership on various issues in the next four years.

A new national executive was also elected during the association’s 32nd annual national conference.
The conference ended here yesterday having run under the theme, “Enhancing the Status of Teachers Through Economic Empowerment”.

Outgoing secretary-general Mr Richard Gundane becomes the national president after two other candidates withdrew from the race.

He replaces Mrs Tendai Chikowore who has been at the helm since 2004.
The new leaderss inherit issues of poor working conditions and remuneration that have bedevilled the civil service for the past few years.

In her farewell speech Mrs Chikowore encouraged the new leadership to be humble and learn from mistakes.

“To develop the winning attitude you must have plans. Be excited, confident and enthusiastic about your goals and your organisation.

“Greatness is not found in possessions, power, positions or prestige. It is discovered with goodness, humility, service and character,” she said.

Incoming national treasurer Mr Edgar Moyo, national secretary general Mr John Mulilo and national deputy president in charge of teachers’ welfare and discipline Mrs Shamiso Makumbe were unopposed.

National deputy president for finance is Mr Thomas Muzondo while national primary school teachers’ representatives are Ms Juliet Chikomo, Ms Esther Gunda and Mr Leonard Sibanda.

Mr Sibanda becomes a member of the standing committee due to the high number of votes he got.
National secondary school teacher’s representatives are Mr Innocent Gumunyu and Ms Violet Mutize.

National tertiary representative is now Mr Elisha Ndanga while women teachers’ representative is Mrs Elizabeth Mahiyana.

The advisory committee member is Mr Gift Musafiri.
The voters roll composed of 130 provincial and national executive representatives.
