Mash West Province calls for Leaner ZIMTA structures at AGM

ZIMTA  Mashonaland  West Province members say they want to see the Association having leaner structures so that  more resources can be channelled towards  programmes and projects that directly benefit members.
This was one of the major resolutions made during the successful provincial annual general meeting (AGM) held at the Odyssey Restaurant in Kadoma on the third of January this year. The AGM was attended by leaders and ordinary members  from the various districts and branches within the province.
The resolution calls for the removal of district structures, thus having the provincial structure linking directly with the branch structure where the members are.
Delegates to the AGM felt removing district structures would reduce expenses in terms of district refunds and district AGM’s and they also agreed that the Association could have only one liaison person at district offices.
However, the Provincial Chairperson Mr Goodwill Taderera warned the delegates not to expect a quick fix to the issue as it would require a constitutional change.
“All the ZIMTA structures are provided for in our constitution hence we would need to have an amendment to the constitution and we would also need the support of the other provinces to have the resolution sail through at national level,” said Mr Taderera.
Another important resolution passed at the AGM was tasking ZIMTA to lobby the government to allow teachers to use modern technology when scheming. Delegates said members in their structures wanted the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to allow for computerised scheming to reduce the time spent on filling in the schemes which would increase time spent with the learner.
The provincial treasurer also presented a financial report for 2013 and the proposed budget for the year 2014 which was duly adopted by the delegates.
All the resolutions and reports will now be forwarded to the Association’s Secretary General as per the ZIMTA constitution.
According to the ZIMTA constitution the provincial AGM is the supreme decision making arm in the province and the provincial executive is elected and guided by the AGM.
