ZIMTA President Is the New SATO Secretary General Print

Zimbabwe Teachers` Association (ZIMTA) National President, Cde. Tendai   Chikowore has been elected as the new SATO Secretary General at the Southern African Teachers’ Organization (SATO) Conference held in Harare.  Cde.   Chikowore will now   be the substantive Secretary General for SATO for the next four years while Cde.  Simon Mapulelo, the President of Botswana Teachers’ Union, BTU is the new SATO Deputy Secretary General

The Presidency of SATO went to Zambian National Union of Teachers’ (ZNUT) President Cde. Henry Kapenda.  Zambia will be deputized by Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) President Cde Sibongile   Mazibuko from Swaziland who took the post of SATO’s First Deputy President.  The Second Deputy President was Cde Simon Kavhila of the Namibian National Teachers’ Union (NANTU).

The Post of SATO Treasurer went to the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) President, Cde Lindiwe Motshwane. Tanzania Teachers’ Union (TTU), President, Cde, Gratian Mukoba was the first Committee member.

The new leaders will be expected to hold office for the next four years. The SATO Conference was held in Harare on the 27th of August 2011 and the next conference will be held in Windhoek Namibia in 2012.
SATO‘s goal is to build solidarity and mutual cooperation among member organizations in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
